Whether it is your first time to climb Kilimanjaro or whether you have climbed many other mountains, we have a best climbing route for you.  We encourage you to select the route that best suits you- and make the most of your comfort and increase chance of success to the top.

Rongai Route: Rongai 7 days route begins at the northern side of Kilimanjaro. We walk through a true wilderness area towards the toothed Mawenzi Peak. The Rongai route is a steady ascent, and is favorite by those with little experience

Total trip duration is 9 days.

Shira Route: Shira 8 days route approaches the summit from the west via Barafu camp and Stella Point, before descending via the Mweka Route and Millennium camp. We walk across an alpine plateau and pass through the caldera of Shira volcano and exploring the rock formations of the plateau.
The 8 days route gives a complete maximum time to acclimatization and also gives the perfect view of the glaciers on the crater rim, before joining with other routes and making the final ascent to the top.

Total trip duration is 10 days.

Lemosho Route: Lemosho 8 days route approaches the summit from the west by the lightly-used Lemosho route. Lemosho route is considered to be easier and more beautiful than any other trail and it retains a real sense of unspoilt wilderness. We travel through forest and moorland from the west, crossing the caldera of Shira volcano and exploring the rock formations of the plateau.

The 8 days route gives a complete maximum time to acclimatization and also gives the perfect view of the glaciers on the crater rim, before joining with other routes and making the final ascent to the top.

Total trip duration is 10 days.

Machame Route: Machame 7 days route approaches summit through forest from the west and joins the other trekking routes before traversing beneath the southern icefields of Kibo. The rainforest is extremely beautiful. The 7 days route gives a complete maximum time to acclimatization, and also gives the perfect view of the Barranco walls.

Total trip duration is 9 days.

Marangu Route:  Marangu 6 days route is the most popular ascending route and is well established route on Kilimanjaro and is the perfect for those with no camping experience.
Marangu is only route that has the luxury of sleeping huts along the way with evening meals taken in a communal dining area. There are even showers (cold) and some flush toilets, which to some are actually a bit of a luxury on the mountain.

Total trip duration is 8 days.

Umbwe Route:  The shortest route on the Mountain, the path can also be a very muddy experience, particularly if it has rained recently! It’s a steep and rough trail up to the first camp, Umbwe Cave. The route is offering a real sense of adventure for the intrepid climbers.

Total trip duration is 8 days.

Serengeti and Mount Meru Climb 9 Days Safari

A wonderful Serengeti and Mount Meru Climb 9 Days Safari to relax on one of our safaris through Northern Tanzania’s most famous national parks and conservation areas. We offer a great deal of safari itineraries to suit any schedule. All our safaris use well-maintained Toyota Land Cruisers or Land Rovers TDI, with roof hatches for unobstructed and up-close game-viewing. Our safari itineraries include all park fees, an English speaking driver/guide, meals and lodge accommodations. Price per person varies depending on group size.

Serengeti and Mount Meru Climb 9 Days Safari

Day 1: Safari welcome in Arusha Tanzania
Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport anytime and transfer to Arusha at Ilboru Safari Lodge.
The rest of the day is free to relax and recover from your flight, laze by the pool or explore the town.

Day2: Safari to Lake Manyara National Park.
Today we drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game drives. This is one of Tanzania’s smaller parks but still offers a rewarding and diverse safari experience. The lakeshore at Manyara teems with birdlife, and while you are looking for the birds, you might spot one of the elusive tree-climbing lions. There are a surprising number of other large mammals and the striking cliffs on the Rift escarpment form a dramatic backdrop. In the late afternoon we make a short journey from the park to our special tented camp. (Nsya Tented Camp FB)

Day 2: Safari to Ngorongoro Crater via Olduvai Gorge to Serengeti National Park.
We head towards the Serengeti National Park. En route there is an opportunity to visit Olduvai Gorge. It is within this steep sided ravine that Louis and Mary Leakey made some of the world’s most important archaeological discoveries in the 1950s. Here in a small museum we are able to see evidence of our ancestors that have been dated back 2.5 million years. After lunch we drive into the Serengeti itself and the rest of the afternoon is spent game viewing in the vast plains that are broken only by stands of acacia trees and the occasional kopje. In December, January and February we will normally meet the migration with large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle. There are always plenty of resident animals, such as giraffe, buffalo, and elephant, and many large predators such as lion, cheetah, and leopard. We return to our special tented camp for the night. (Ikoma Bush Tented Camp FB)

Day3: A full day game view in the Serengeti National Park.
We have another full day in this wonderful park, rising early to make the most of our time. Our guides will choose the best spotting locations for the time of year; we can spend time at the Hippo pool watching these majestic animals laze about in the cool water happily living alongside the crocodiles, watch a big pride of lions, be in the middle of the migration, sometimes surrounded by wildebeest, sometimes by zebras, which travel with the wildebeest. We journey from the wide open plains to the kopjes: these volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals and from the top we can look out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti. This diverse and interesting landscape will provide us with the ultimate in game viewing, we will hopefully see all of the plain games; elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions and it you are lucky the elusive leopard and cheetah, as well as huge amounts of interesting bird life, from the elegant secretary birds to the flightless ostrich. We return to our special tented camp for the night.  (Ikoma Bush Tented Camp FB)

Day 4: Safari to Ngorongoro Crater.
We start the day with an early morning game drive before heading to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ngorongoro is a special place in that it is a Conservation Area, not a National Park; this means that the whole area is managed for both the animals and the local Masai people who graze their cattle alongside the indigenous wildlife. During the drive in Ngorongoro we have a chance to glimpse something of the Masai way of life. After stopping at the entrance gate, where there is a chance to learn more about this fascinating volcanic landscape, we will drive around the rim of the Crater itself, and from here we can look down and see the herd of wildebeest or buffalos. Finally we descend into the crater. The crater walls provide a natural sanctuary for the animals, which means there is plenty to see: lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino and leopard (if you are lucky). The only animal you won’t see in here is a giraffe, whose long legs are unable to cope with the steeps sides of the crater. In the late afternoon we travel just outside of Ngorongoro Conservation Area to our special tented camp.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
After breakfast, we depart the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and head back to your hotel in Arusha.

4 Day Mount Meru treks

Mount Meru climbing in 4 days trek is good for acclimatization prior to Mount Kilimanjaro climbing. The mountain is the third highest peak in Africa after Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Kenya. The climber will get an opportunity to view one of the best savanna and forest that hosts diverse wildlife, including nearly 400 species of birds, and also monkeys and leopards

Day 1: Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m).
We start from Momella Gate (1,500 m) in late morning. The track soon passes some open grassland, with a good chance of seeing buffaloes and warthogs, and then continues as a steady climb through montane forest. We take lunch at, or near, the Fig Tree Arch, which is big enough to drive a car through! After lunch, the route continues through less dense forest, where there are an abundance of birds and monkeys. The black and white colobus monkeys are particularly fascinating to watch. By mid-afternoon, there are the first closer views of the towering cliffs and the Ash Cone. We reach Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m), situated in an idyllic grassy glade, in time to enjoy the last of the afternoon sun and beautiful views over the surrounding plains towards Kilimanjaro. [5-6 hours walking]

Day 2: Saddle Hut (3,570 m).
The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short day but a steep and sustained climb all the way. We walk through attractive, open, and lush montane forest to reach the halfway point of Elephant Ridge. This has excellent views of the summit ridge and across most of the crater floor. Whilst resting, you might spot elephants or other animals from here. The path continues uphill through giant heather and other moorland vegetation to reach Saddle Hut (3,570 m), where lunch is waiting for us. The afternoon is free to rest and enjoy the views. The more energetic can make the short climb to the nearby summit of Little Meru (3,820 m) for superb views just before sunset. [3-6 hours walking]

Day 3: Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m).
An early start at around 2 a.m. to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800 m), and then continue along an undulating ridge of ash and rock to reach Cobra Point (4,350 m) around sunrise. The views are stunning: the cliffs of the Crater rim, the Ash Cone rising from the Crater floor, Kilimanjaro floating on the morning clouds, and west towards the Rift Valley if the weather is clear. The summit of Socialist Peak (4,566 m) is an hour more on a superb but often steep path. The route back to Rhino Point in the sharp morning light on a narrow ridge between the sloping outer wall of the crater and the sheer cliffs of the inner wall is one of the most dramatic and exhilarating walks in Africa. We rest, and have brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m). [10-12 hours walking]

Note: The ridge between the summit and Rhino Point is not suitable for those suffering from vertigo. In icy conditions or in strong winds, it may be impossible for anyone to progress beyond Rhino Point.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate Gate (1,500 m).
We take the direct route down towards Momella through open grassland and mixed forest, with good chances of seeing wildlife. This trail has excellent views back towards the crater and over the plains of the National Park. We should reach Momella Gate by late morning. [2-3 hours walking]
arrange a private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) after the safari.

10 Day Safari to Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru

Tanzania Southern Parks 10 Days Safari Itinerary

Wide-ranging wildlife and unusual scenery in remote southern Tanzania. This Tanzania Southern Parks 10 Days Safari Itinerary traditional camping safari explores the best of southern Tanzania, a vastly different experience to a safari in the north of the country.

Tanzania Southern Parks 10 Days Safari Itinerary Tanzania camping holiday

This trip is all about game viewing, and our safari starts with the truly wild scenery of Selous, Africa’s largest wildlife reserve. We do not have the massive migration here but the wildlife will not disappoint: large populations of hippo and crocodiles, and small numbers of the endangered black rhino. The wide Rufiji River bisects the reserve, and our safari is not just by 4WD, it is also by boat and on foot. We travel overland to Mikumi National Park, where we stop for a couple of days of game viewing before continuing to Ruaha. Tanzania’s second largest park, Ruaha straddles ‘southern’ and ‘eastern’ Africa, so the animal and bird life here are second to none.

Tanzania Southern Parks 10 Days Safari Itinerary

Day 1
After arrival, the rest of the day is free to relax after your flight, or to explore the city

Day 2
Leaving Dar-es-Salaam early we head out to start our safari experience, proceeding to Selous Game Reserve with a packed lunch. This is a 4.5 hour drive, driving on a tarmac road for the first 150 km. We come to a small village called Kibiti where we turn off this main road and here the real Africa starts. The road is gravel and in the wet season, filled with water. On arrival at the campsite, we find complete bush, cleared enough to camp. From our tents we will see nothing but the flowing plains of the Selous Game Reserve. On game drives we will get the chance to see the Rufiji River, with hippos popping there heads above the water and crocodiles gracefully wading in the current. There will be time for an optional boat safari from the time we arrive until dinner is served.

Day 3 – 4
We now have two full days in Selous. Each day after a hearty breakfast, we will depart for a full day game drive with a packed lunch. We will get to see a variety of game, hopfully including the African hunting dog, and drive through different terrain, bush, savannah and miombo woodland. Selous, Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary with an area of 54,600 sq.km, is bigger than Denmark and 4 times the size of the Serengeti. It has the world’s largest number of big game – elephant, buffalo, rhino, and Sable antelope. Selous is also home to wildebeest, eland, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra, impala, hippo, leopard and lion. There are about 350 species of birdlife. We will return to camp late evening for a hot dinner.

Day 5
After breakfast we proceed to Mikumi National Park. Mikumi is a small park but none the less, game is plentiful, and the mkata plains provide spectacular viewing. We will stop en route to Mikumi to have our packed lunch. Afternoon game drive in Mikumi National Park.

Day 6
After breakfast, we depart for Ruaha with our packed lunch. Ruaha, with an area of 10,300sq.km, is the second largest park, and second largest elephant sanctuary in Tanzania. The great Ruaha River, which flows along its entire eastern border, creating spectacular gorges and scenery, features a large number of hippos and crocodiles. The wide variety of animals in this park includes Greater and Lesser Kudu, and Roan and Sable Antelope. Birdlife is also rich, with over 370 species recorded. We camp tonight just outside the park.

Day 7 – 8
